An OHM/Whose Hoo Project 2026 🌟

Oral History Medway is working with Whose Hoo collecting memories of teenage life on the Hoo Peninsula. We`re looking for people who remember what teenage life felt like, the music, the gathering spots, the sense of being young in a place that the rest of the world wasn`t paying much attention to.

We`d love to talk to you about the places where you hung out, youth clubs, village halls, or places you went to when there was nowhere obvious to go. The bands you listened to, that band you formed in someone1s front room, the records that got passed around. The highs and lows of teenage life.

What did you listen to? Where did you go? Who did you become? Whatever era you grew up in, we want to hear about it...

🐝 Come along and see what bees and other insects you can find on the farm with help from the Bumblebee Conservation Trust!

The Thames and Medway Estuaries are home to a wide range of insect species, including five of the UK`s rarest bumblebees.

As they retreated to the coasts during the 20th century, the marshes, grasslands and sea walls of the Hoo Peninsula became a valuable refuge for them and a stronghold as we work to create landscapes where they can thrive again. 🌱

As a local resident living just a stone throw away from the church, artist Fiona Spirals shares her passion and insight of the area with a message of ‘Love where you live!’

Explore a selection of her mixed media artworks featuring local birdlife. 🐦

Then listen to her reading new poetry inspired by this unique place on the edge of the marsh. 🌊

All this is accompanied by an atmospheric soundscape by David Bowdler, who shares Fiona’s love of this place. 🎵

HOO-lidays ✉️

Holidays take us somewhere special, away from our everyday whatever that is. Holidays, make memories; they are times, we hope, of renewal, relaxation and pleasure: they linger and last, because they are the out-of-the-ordinary days, the days beyond our routines, beyond our work and jobs and beyond our day-to-day getting-by.

Holiday postcards (usually just a few words and an image) are the fragile traces of these extraordinary days.

Bryan Hawkins, an artist and a HOOlidaymaker, took four single day Hoolidays spending time on the Hoo Peninsula alone or with friends during 2026. The ‘Postcards’ are the work that these eventful and surprising days-out on the peninsula have inspired.

Come along and find out what role local churches and their mythical gargoyles played on one of his Hoolidays. Then draw your own gargoyle mask to take home. 🎭

Bryan also invites you to send him a postcard of your own design inspired by the area. In exchange he will gift you with one of his Hooliday postcards. ✉️
