Northward Hill Nature Reserve

Cooling Road, Cooling ME3 8DS

Saturday 16 May | 1pm
Sunday 16 May | 11am

Join a gentle guided walk at this beautiful nature reserve, home to iconic birds such as nightingales and cuckoos.

First stop on the walk takes you to a Whose Hoo community archaeology project, where the team are looking for evidence of Roman salt and pottery production on the edge of the marsh.

As part of this activity, artist Duncan Grant invites you to help him create a collective artwork that reveals some of the secret layers hidden beneath your feet.

Along the route, stop and listen for birds; and look at how the Merlin App can really help beginners identify what they can hear.

This is not an expert bird walk; it is a gentle introduction aimed at families and beginners.

The walk is mainly flat and on grass but there is a gentle slope leading to the bird hide. There are also some very busy rabbits on the reserve so care must be taken to not step in a hole or burrow!
